What this page is, and is not

ThermoCare does not diagnose cervical spondylosis, does not treat the underlying spinal changes, and does not perform neck manipulation of any kind. Care here is comfort-focused and works alongside your doctor.

What is cervical spondylosis?

Cervical spondylosis is the general term for age-related wear in the discs and joints of the neck. It is extremely common with age, and many people have these changes on a scan without significant symptoms at all.

When it does cause symptoms, the usual picture is neck stiffness that is worst in the morning, a dull ache spreading into the shoulders, reduced range when turning the head, and sometimes headaches that start at the base of the skull.

Why is this diagnosis a doctor's job?

Because neck symptoms have many causes, and because the ones that matter most, nerve or spinal cord involvement, are exactly the ones that need proper assessment rather than a therapy room.

If you have not been assessed, please start with your doctor. If you have, bring the diagnosis, any imaging report, and anything you have been told to avoid.

How can supportive therapy help?

Much of the day-to-day discomfort people describe comes from the muscular tension that builds around a stiff, guarded neck rather than from the spinal changes themselves. That muscular component is what supportive therapy can work with.

Sessions use gentle massage across the shoulders and upper back, hot stone massage where sustained warmth helps, or acupuncture where direct pressure on the area is not welcome. Pressure is built gradually and adjusted throughout.

ThermoCare does not perform neck manipulation, adjustment or high-velocity techniques of any kind. If that is what you are looking for, this is not the right clinic.

What can help between visits?

The practitioner will usually raise the same practical points that matter most for desk-bound necks: screen height near eye level, a supportive pillow, standing up on a regular interval, and being aware of how long the head is held forward over a phone.

These are general comfort suggestions. Any prescribed exercise programme for a diagnosed condition should come from your doctor or physiotherapist.

What are the common signs of cervical spondylosis?

These are descriptions people commonly give, listed so you can recognise what you are experiencing. They are not a checklist for diagnosing yourself, and only a doctor can tell you what is causing them.

  • Neck stiffness, often worst in the morning
  • A dull ache at the base of the neck and across the shoulders
  • Reduced range of movement when turning the head
  • Grinding or clicking sensations on neck movement
  • Headaches originating at the back of the head
Safety comes first

Questions about cervical spondylosis

If your question is not covered here, ask us before making a booking.

No. ThermoCare does not diagnose any medical condition. If you have not been assessed by a doctor, please start there. What we offer is supportive comfort-focused therapy, which some people choose alongside medical care.

No. ThermoCare does not perform neck manipulation, adjustment or high-velocity techniques. Our work here is soft-tissue and comfort-focused only.

No, and we would not suggest otherwise. Age-related spinal changes are not reversed by massage or acupuncture. What supportive therapy may help with is the muscular tension and stiffness that sits around them.

Please see your doctor first. Tingling or weakness in the hands can indicate nerve involvement, and that needs medical assessment before any therapy.

Neither is presented as better. Acupuncture tends to suit people who find sustained pressure on the neck uncomfortable; massage suits those whose tension responds to direct work. The practitioner will talk both through with you.

Not sure whether this is right for you?

Call and describe what you are experiencing. If you should see a doctor first, we will tell you that instead of booking you in.
